Five Worries Every CP Has at the Start of Their Program
Now that you have been accepted, you’ve paid your fees,
and selected your check in date everything
should be smooth sailing from here... right?
I’m here to talk about some of the pre-DCP
worries that every CP has before their program
1. Will I make friends?
This worry stems from the fact that majority of the students participating in this program do not know anyone going into it. But honestly, that is the best part! Being able to not have any preconceived opinions of others helps the process of making friends a whole lot easier. You get the chance to genuinely get to know someone for them and start making memories from there. The biggest challenge is just putting yourself out there to talk to people. How else is anyone going to know how awesome you are if you don’t provide that opportunity?
2. Will I have enough money?
I’m going to be 100% honest and say that you won’t be making big bucks working for the mouse during this internship. If you want to save money and leave with more than you came with, it is super important to budget. (Check back soon for an upcoming post about Disney Budgeting to hear more about my experience) But, if you’re just trying to brake even with a bit of cash for your way home feel free to eat in the parks and buy lots of pins (guilty). You will be getting enough hours for you to pay your rent at Carnegie and still have money for food and fun.
3. Will I be okay without a car?
Having a car will not make or break your DCP experience. Take it from someone who was in a five person apartment and none of us had a car. Having a car makes your experience more convenient but I wouldn’t say more magical. The Program also host events that will provide transportation for you, like the LA Tour! Though I did miss out on going to the beach a lot and the Walt Disney Studios tour, but if you refer back to point #1 then I think you should be fine.
4. What if I hate my work location?
Your work location really is the luck of the draw. There is no knowing where you’ll be place or even which park or resort you will land in. But as my Grandparents’ always said, “you have to make the best of every opportunity.” You never know.. your disappointment may turn out to be the best thing that ever happened to you. Though, to be completely honest, your work location itself won’t really matter. It will be the coworkers and the guests that come through that make your location truly magical.
5. What if my DCP is not as magical as I
thought it would be?
For this one, there really is no rhyme or reason to divert this one. Many people dream about participating in the Disney College Program, and you actually made it! There are a lot of high expectations as to how amazing you think it is going to be. You do have to remember that the DCP is just like anything you do in life. You get what you put into it. So if you want to have lots of park memories, head to your favorite park. If you want to have life-long, Disney loving friends, put in the effort to make strong friendships. You can’t expect for all your dreams to come true with a bibbity bobbity boo. You must go out and make it happen!
So what are you waiting for? Your DCP adventures start here. Whether you are preparing to check in for your program,
or for the applications for the upcoming season to drop,
be proactive and get moving. Only you can make your dreams come true.
