Travel While You Are in College

Growing up I often heard the phrase 'travel while you're young' I never really understood why everyone was telling me this. I did not have the money to travel, so the only realistic time to travel is after graduation when I have a job and the funds to do so. But now that I am here, I know see why these grown ups were telling me to go now.

When you are in college, everyone calls themselves the 'broke college student' and honestly the struggle is real! Going to school full-time while trying to have a job can take away from the college experience.

So why do people tell you to travel while you are in college?

1. You have time

Once you settle into a career you say goodbye to the long months of summer vacation, as well as winter break. Those large chunks of time that you can capitalize on to plan a trip. You do not have any obligations or have to clear it with anyone (I mean other than your family). In the work force you have to request time off, and most places require you to work up to your vacation time. Most people get about two weeks every year. So go while you have all this time off!

2. You have energy

For me personally, when the weekend comes around I do not want to party or go out. All I want to do is stay home and chill. That is not the case when you are in college because you may not have classes for 8 hours every single day. Many people go out every weekend, and when break comes up it is like an extended weekend. Going out everyday on an adventure is possible because you are not constrained to recouping energy from the work week. Question of the day! If you could go anywhere, where would you go?

3. All your friends have the same time off

Planning vacations with my girlfriends is probably the most frustrating thing about planning a vacation. But when you are in college you all have the same vacation time. So planning then becomes about deciding where you want to go and paying for it. The biggest battle for planning a trip now is making sure we can all get the time off first, then booking the rest comes secondly.

So why not? Save your money, and go! Make memories and travel as much as you can while you have the time off, because once you enter the work force you may not have as much flexibility with time off.
